"Redtail Hawk" by Michael Jell

Michael Jell

Michael Jell was born in Maidstone, England but he spent most of his childhood in Zimbabwe, Africa. In 1969 his family moved to Eastern Canada.

Michael was fortunate to have good teachers who encouraged his artistic talents. He attended Sheridan College of Art in Ontario. The positive feedback and support from his art teachers gave him an excellent foundation and he has continued to develop and learn on his own.

Michael has worked in a number of different mediums but over time has found that oil and acrylic suit his style the best. He has entered a number of national and regional juried shows where he has won People's Choice and Best of Show among other awards. A giclee print of the Red Tail Hawk is hanging in the House of Commons in Ottawa. Michael's work has been published and chosen for the front page of Art Avenue, a magazine published by the Federation of Canadian Artists, and Beef In B.C., published by the B.C. Cattleman's Association.

His interest in the ranch life of this area has resulted in a number of paintings depicting the scenery and lifestyle of the working cowboy.  His Western Art has been commissioned by local ranchers.

He has an appreciation of the natural world and spends much of his time exploring the Okanagan area. Over the past few years Michael's interests have led him to landscape paintings depicting the beauty of the Okanagan area. His ambition is to continue to paint and to grow as an artist.
