Mentorship Program Returning in the Fall
FCA-COC is a community of over 135 artists from the central Okanagan area, that includes emerging artists through to highly proficient professional artists. Through peer support and mutual encouragement our aim is to promote the artistic development and professional advancement of our members.
One of the most popular and useful programs of the Central Okanagan Chapter of the FCA is its Mentorship Program. This program was initiated in the fall of 2018. It includes a 90-minute presentation, created by Laurie Koss, SFCA on Responding to Art followed by monthly mentorship sessions with one of the Chapter’s signature members. There is no cost to members to participate in the program. For the last 2 years the mentorship sessions have been conducted via Zoom. This year, it will be up to the mentors to choose whether to hold their group meetings in person or via zoom.
One of the differences between the Federation of Canadian Artists and ‘art clubs’ is artistic standards. While the focus of art clubs is to be inclusive of all their members (hanging work from everyone who wants to submit to an exhibition, for example), the focus of the FCA is rather, to raise artistic standards. For artwork to be included in a Federation exhibition the work needs to meet or exceed FCA artistic standards (in the eyes of the jury).
The Mentorship program provides participants with feedback on their art and helps guide them to reaching the next step:
We will be resuming this program shortly. There is no cost to participate. You will have access to Laurie Koss's presentation on Responding to Art. Mentors will be assigned to participants.
The program will start up in September.
Please enroll if you are interested in participating!
