This one-day workshop will focus on the “thinking” part of creating a landscape painting. We will review fundamentals required for creating a strong three-dimensional illusion on a two-dimensional surface.  I will present the approach I recommend to planning for the developing painter. We will also discuss an organized approach to critiquing our work. We will spend the rest of the day creating a landscape painting together following those principles - using a reference provided.  We will plan and paint together step by step. Making you a better “you”.

Buckrell picAbout Brian Buckrell

Brian retired from the University of Guelph (veterinary medicine and agriculture) in 2001 and relocated from Ontario, with his wife Cathy, to Comox, B.C., on Vancouver Island. He began painting seriously in 2004 studying with acclaimed artists in Canada and the US. In 2007, he invested in full time study at the Jeffrey Watts Atelier in Encinitas California, drawing and painting from life. He continues to study with exceptional artists today.

Brian paints full time - in acrylic and oil. Brian`s paintings are reflective of his love of the outdoors, travel, agriculture and rural communities. The more he paints the more his work moves towards abstracted impressions of his subjects.

Brian has won numerous competitions and awards for both his studio and plein air paintings in BC. He was an invited participant in the 2016  50th Anniversary Plein Air Competition at the McMichael Gallery in Kleinburg, Ontario: his 16x20 acrylic painting won first place. His work has been sited in Arabella Magazine, in South West Art and in the North Light Books: The Best of Acrylics 2014, 2015 , 2016 and Plein Air Magazines- Plein Air Today.

His paintings have sold across Canada, and internationally.

Brian is honoured to have been selected into membership of:
