In this 2-day workshop, by Jerry Markham will spend one day painting outdoors, one day indoors.

The first day will be plein air painting the view of Lake Okanagan from the Sailing Club in Kelowna. Gathering information and learning how to use what you need and disregarding the rest while in the field is an important part of outdoor painting, and an exercise that will prove invaluable with all landscape paintings. We will also look at value, colour and temperature - all things that often are distorted in photographs. Cameras are a very useful tool when used effectively, so we will talk about what makes a good painting photo and how to capture photos that will be useful.

The second day we will be indoors where you will paint a subject of your choice from a photo.  Throughout the process, we will explore the various fundamentals - composition, values, edges and colour - to create a dynamic painting.

 Jerry Markham – Biography

Jerry

Always the consummate student, Jerry continually strives to evolve and grow as a painter, often tackling subject matter that challenges him, whether by pushing the composition, altering light or color, or experimenting with how the paint is applied.

“I want to capture the essence of a subject more than the specifics. If the work is loose and a bit undone, there is more room for the viewer to interpret, to access the painting through their own imaginings.”

Jerry’s work has been featured in Southwest Art, Western Art Collector, Western Art & Architecture, and International Artist, seen recognition through awards and can be found in galleries throughout North America.

Markham, age 38, has been painting full-time for over 14 years. He currently lives in the Okanagan valley of British Columbia with his wife Leah.
