Most of us live and work in built-up areas and they can provide fascinating subjects to paint, but the commonly tonal colours and rectilinear forms can be a challenge to bring to life.  This workshop is designed to give participants the confidence to go out & tackle their urban surroundings.

The workshop is designed with a two-day format, and combines instructor demonstration and guided learning.  Attendees will work on a new common subject each day, chosen by the instructor.

Each day starts with a verbal discussion on the day’s composition, followed by a number of colour mixing exercises appropriate to that composition.  Armed with this palette of colour mixes, attendees will work on the composition with hands-on instruction on palette, layering and brushwork, punctuated by instructor demonstrations of urban elements in light & shade, such as brickwork, concrete, glass, wood, asphalt, metalwork and wiring.

At the end of the weekend, attendees should come away with the tools to confidently approach a range of urban landscapes.
