Society of Canadian Arts
The Society of Canadian Visual Arts, an affiliate of the FCA-COC, was incorporated in 1999 under the Society Act and it was created with the following purposes:
- To unite artists, critics and persons interested in art an allied in related subjects for fellowship and mutual support in promoting common aims and to assert the creative importance of art in the national and community life of Canada
- To promote an improvement in the welfare, recognition and professional standing of practicing artists in the community
- To promote activities which will tend to increase the appreciation, enjoyment and use of art and works of art by Canadians
- To promote enquiry into the solution of problems related to the growth of Canadian culture and to stimulate public interest in such matters
- To establish, promote, support and encourage an Art Gallery and engage in activities with art and art appreciation
- To assist the co-ordination and encouragement of activities of groups and individuals tending to further the objectives of the Society by providing a clearing house for information and ideas.
- To publish, print, distribute and support publications of all kinds devoted to the interest of art and artists
- To improve the growth of emerging and established artists through educational activities and programs
- To promote, encourage, give financial assistance to, subscribe to, become a member of and cooperate with societies having similar objectives, in all parts of the world
- To co-operate with organizations in Canada having similar objectives to those of the Society.
- To do all such things as are incidental or conductive to the attainment to the above-mentioned objectives
Annual Bursary – The Society of Canadian Arts Award
To encourage the youth in our community engaged in activities with art, The Society of Canadian Art offers an annual bursary of $500 (The Society of Canadian Arts Award) to a deserving high school graduate. This award is distributed through the Central Okanagan Bursary & Scholarship Society.
